Developing leaders people skills; A Self-focused approach

Many leaders come to coaching seeking to find solutions to changing something about those they lead, they are often "others-focused".   It can be tempting as a coach to help the client think of some quick-start solutions such as exploring what HR supports are available to them etc.  To succeed and for clients to become professional competent people leaders change must begin with themselves; they must become more "self-focused".    Reflecting on what your preferences are, situations that cause you to react without thinking through the impact, how you manage your reactions and how (or if) you learn from them provide a starting point for the development of leaders people skills.
